This water-free solution contains 0.2% pure Retinol, an ingredient that can reduce the appearances of fine lines, of photo damage and of general skin ageing. While Retinol has been studied extensively, it is irritating to the skin and newer technologies exist that mimic the visible effects of Retinol without causing skin irritation. For this reason, The Ordinary generally recommends using Granactive Retinoid 2% or Granactive Retinoid 5% instead of this formula.

Water-free, alcohol-free, nut-free, vegan, gluten-free, soy-free.

Directions

Apply a small amount to face in the PM as part of your skincare regimen, after water serums but before heavier treatments. Do not use with other retinoid treatments. Avoid unprotected solar exposure. Store in a cool, dry place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This works... yes, it really does! I bought this two months ago, and applied it to one half of my face to see if it really worked... I didn't tell my daughter which half and after six weeks she knew which side. Seriously... there are less wrinkles! The texture of my skin is generally smoother too. Follow the advice for application, because I did have a little sensitivity and peeling in the first week which soon calmed down. It is an excellent price, not tested on animals, packed to be minimal plastic, and just totally excellent. I can't rave about it enough, have told all my friends who are also buying it. Now to get the left side of my face to catch up with the right ;-)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great way to get on the retinol train! For me, this is a very gentle way to start the use of retinol. There have been no adverse effects at all. I’ve been using this for about three weeks on a daily basis and the squalane is usually enough moisture for my dry skin. I follow every day with SPF 30 and I’m really looking forward to The Ordinary launching their range of SPF products. Irritating that it all sells out so quickly but great they’ve revolutionized the price of active skincare products. Well done FeelUnique for being a supplier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Goodbye acne/scars! I have used this for just 3 nights and already see a major improvement in my acne scars and it has also helped clear up lingering acne. Can't wait to see the results after using it for longer!! I have tried SO many lotions and potions but this is definitely working fastest/the best. Highly recommend, particularly if you're at the end of your tether with acne!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awaiting results but really happy with the product The squalane is such a good carrier for the retinol. A little goes a long way, 1 drop covers my whole face. No peeling, not sure if that’s good or not. No sensitivity, no redness, no dryness. really enjoy using and will add more to my routine once I understand the products.

I only bought this three weeks ago, and I have read about using retinoids and apparently they take time to work, so I haven’t noticed any differences yet. Initially I experienced significant peeling around my lips, and quite dry eyes, but my skin has started to get used to it. I’m using it to reduce hyperpigmentation and will hopefully notice a difference with continued use.

Hi Is this product ok to use around the eye area?

Hi there, Retinol can cause significant irritation, redness and peeling, especially around the eyes and mouth which means we would not recommend using this around the eye area. Hope this helps! Thanks Katie, Beauty Expert.

Hello, I would recommend the The Ordinary Retinol 0.2% in Squalane 30ml to be the best product to try when introducing a retiniol in to your skin care routine. I'm 24 and I don't think I'm going to have to worry about wrinkles for a few years, but I have noticed the appearance of open pores either side of my nose where I think the skin is starting to lose it's elasticity. Is retinol for me or is it too early?

At what point in your night time skin routine should you use this? Currently I cleanse, tone, serum, eye cream and then moisturise. Am I meant to put this on after using my toner?

Hi, thank you for your query. It is recommended to apply this in the evening, depending on what type of serum you are using you would apply this just before if the serum is quite heavy. If the serum is water based, you would want to apply this after. Please note, it is essential to apply an SPF to your skin the next day to ensure you are protected from UV rays.
